Norway city Alesund lays on the west coast of the country in fjords. It has a very mild climate, affected by Gulfstream, though it doesn't rain here as often as in Oslo. According the standards of Norway Olesun is fairly large city. There are some high schools (including the prestigious Business School), banks, restaurants, cafes and discotheques. At the same time, having walked a little from the center, you can wander through the streets for hours and meet nobody. Alesund is also a cultural center, there are museums, art galleries, park, gardens and great many monuments. There are monuments to fishermen, the wife of fishermen, there is a monument to the cat, to the horse and so on. Generally, Norway is known for the huge number of sights per capita. Alesund is positioned as a tourist center of world-wide reputation. Tourists come from abroad, and from Norway. There dwells a world-famous fjord Gayranger not far from the city, which is scored by Unesco as one of the most beautiful place in the world. However, tourist boats go there only in the spring and summer season. The main distinguishing architectonic feature of the city is that it is built in the style of art-nova from A to Z. In the beginning of the twentieth century, in one thunderstorm night there happened a terrible conflagration, and almost the entire city burned up. In after years it had been rebuilt according one project. Alesund is considered a famous shopping spot, one of the largest shopping center in Norway being located near the city. There is a large port in Alesund, with many bossiness and fishing vessels moored. Fishing is an important element of the tourist' program here. Tourist might even be offered to fish from the hotel windows. Freshly cooked fish and shrimps is a popular proposition for tourists walking by the embankment, directly from the boards of boats moored there. You can buy a portion of shrimps, sit yourself down somewhere in the nearby public garden and enjoy the view of surroundings. Remember this name: Alesund, Norway.
